Brasserie Léon: Signature Steak-&-Fries Baguette Sandwich
If you’ve been missing your fix of steak and potatoes in recent months, Brasserie Léon now offers a way to binge on beef at home without compromising on quality, bringing together its signature ingredients – Australian grain-fed beef striploin, house-made crispy French fries and herb-butter sauce – in a baguette for both delivery and dine-in.
French-style steak-frites that hits the spot might seem like a distant dream for most people staying home. Conventional wisdom suggests that ordering a steak for delivery – arriving lukewarm, long after it’s been rested – won’t satisfy, due to the delicately fine-tuned process of how to cook a steak and when to best consume it.
For Brasserie Léon, where steak-frites is the restaurant’s bread and butter, a crusty loaf is the cornerstone of a compromise to ensure that beef with fries can be enthusiastically savoured despite a delivery journey,
Everything is assembled after you order. The seared striploin is oven-finished, the fries come out chunky and golden from high heat, rounded out with a sauce concocted with 15 secret ingredients (probably parsley, generously garlicky, beautifully buttery), layered together more than a foot long in a baguette for its trip to you.
The baguette is benign in flavour and yielding in crumb, hefty enough to soak up some of the sauce’s richness without turning soggy, ceding the spotlight mainly to the medium-cooked beef (which the sauce helps from drying out) – the perfect partnership of protein and carbs, with the fries adding a playful, potatoey boost for a multi-textured meal of convenience. No steak knives needed, since the beef is more thinly sliced than a regular steak.
